The House

Our house is located 1146 Lullwater Road NE, Atlanta 30307 is in unincorporated DeKalb County and in the Fernbank Elementary School and Druid Hills High School districts.  It is a ten-minute walk from the house to the center of the Emory University campus.

The house, designed by Leila Ross Wilburn, was built in 1925. The page in her plan book, Ideal Homes of Today, can be seen on Leila’s Plan page. It has four bedrooms and three and one-half bathrooms, a multi-windowed study on one end and a screened porch on the other end, a living room, a dining room, a den, a remodeled kitchen, and a large multipurpose room that we added at the back of the house in the early 1980’s. There is a full basement and a separate two-car garage with a storage area at the back for garden equipment.

The lot is a bit over an acre and has mature flower gardens and a large woodland garden with an abundance of native and hybrid azaleas. Images of earlier gardens can be found at here. There is a short video tour of the garden on the last page of this site.

Perhaps because the house was owned by academics it had many built in bookshelves and when we did some revisions of the entry foyer and living room we had additional bookshelves installed in the living room and the study.  There are 215 linear feet of shelving.

The house is not yet on the market.  We are purchasing a two bedroom condominium about two miles from campus but need to remain in our Lullwater Road house until at least late April or mid-May so we can enjoy the spring flowers in the garden while we wait for renovations of the condominium to be completed.  Because of the current public health difficulties, we can only show the house through a series of photos of the interior. These will be found in the House Tour folder.
