Our tour director, Valeria, had our bus detour to a little town, Castelbuono. The major reason was a visit to the crypt of the church of the Assumption of Mary in the square, Madre Vecchia. The crypt is not open to the public, but Valeria made arrangements for us to visit it. Lit by a single by bulb, the beautiful colors of the incredible frescos only become evident under a camera flash.
