In Lima
In Lima
After a buffet breakfast at 8:00 we set off to find a Catholic church. We walked for about 20 minutes along a major street that just happened to be the route of a rather large race (kind of like a Lima version of the Peachtree Road race). We found the church at the finish line and went to the 9:00 Mass. We arrived at the offertory but stayed after to read the readings for the Sunday from the English language missal we brought with us. The Milaflores section is one of the well-to-do parts of the city. Just about every house has strong metal bars on the windows and cars are parked either behind strong metal fences or in heavy duty metal “cages” with strong locks.
We met the other members of our tour group (there will be 8 of us on this “pre-trip extension”) and our day guide. After lunch at a local restaurant we were given a tour of Lima and an archeological museum. All in all it was an uninspiring day. We had dinner at a Pizza Hut - pizza and red wine and went to bed at 9:00 because we have to get up at 2:00 for a 3:00AM departure and a 5:00AM flight to Iquitos, Peru.
