Considering their size it should be easy to spot hippopotami and rhinosceri, but the rarity of rhinos and the proclivity of hippos to submerge in ponds, we never seen a whole hippo and we thought we would never see a rhino.

        The hippos cooled their heels and their butts. The first rhinos stayed far, far away. Each time we saw them, they were closer than the last until finally a pair rumbled by our van and took off at a fast jog.
